Duygu Demirlioglu

Duygu Demirlioglu is the Faculty Athletic Representative at Holy Names University. He received his bachelor's degree in physics from Caltech, his master's from U. C. Berkeley, and his Ph. D. from the University of Istanbul.
 
He has held positions as professor of physics and mathematics at Bosporus University in Istanbul, Turkey, visiting professor at U.C. Berkeley, visiting scholar at the Center for Theoretical Physics in Trieste, Italy, and for the last thirty years, professor of physics and physical science at Holy Names University. He has also been twice elected President of the Northern California/Nevada Chapter of the American Association of Physics Teachers. He is currently the Chair of the Mathematics and Science Division at Holy Names.

Dr. Demirlioglu was a swimmer in college, and was on the national swim team in his native country, where he once held two national records in the butterfly. He also played soccer for many years, coached the Holy Names men's soccer team in the 1980s, and is still a licensed soccer referee. He has also taught folk dancing and performed as a folk dancer for over twenty years.
 

Dr. Demirlioglu's responsibility as the Faculty Athletic Representative is to act as a liaison between the Faculty, President and the Athletics Department. He is also the liaison between both the faculty and the Student Athlete Advisory Committee. Responsibilities include eligibility, rules interpretation, reporting violations, violation investigation, self-reporting, transfers in/out, recruiting, class attendance issues, administering the coach's certification tests, and helping resolve academic problems for athletes. He also serves as a member of the Compliance Committee in addition to the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. Dr. Demirlioglu represents the institution at the FARA Annual Meeting and Symposium and NCAA Regional Rules Seminars.

Dennis Jones has been an integral part of HNU's Athletics program since 1995, when he arrived at Then, Holy Names College, as a recruit to a men's basketball program in its second year of existence. Graduating from HNC in 1998, he took on the head women's basketball coaching duties in July of that same year.
 
 During his time at the University, Dennis has served the University in a variety of roles, including; Head Basketball Coach, Sports Information Director, Assistant Director of Athletics, Associate Director of Athletics, Admission Counselor, Associate Director of Admissions. Jones has been HNU's Director of Athletics since July 2008, during which time he has implemented programs created by the University and the Department of Athletics that support the NAIA Champions of Character program and has paid special attention to recruiting plans that ensure HNU's sports teams reflect the general student body.

  

Jones served as the Head Coach of Men's Basketball from 2004-2011 and as Head Coach of Women's Basketball from 1998-2004, acting as the primary recruiter, scout, counselor, fundraiser, and budget manager for both teams. In addition to coaching the two teams, Coach Jones also organized community outreach visits to elementary and middle schools and was responsible for the creation of a Junior Varsity Men's Basketball team.

 

During the 2005-2006 season, Coach Jones led the Men's Basketball team to its first appearance in the National Tournament since 2001; their first national ranking in three years, as high as #19 in NAIA II polls; and to their first Conference Tournament Championship in five years. As Women's Basketball Coach, he grew the program from seven players in 1998 to eighteen by the 2003-2004 season and extended the Conference winning streak to 54 Cal Pac regular season wins in a row during the 2003-2004 season. Jones coached Holy Names College's first-ever NAIA Division II First Team All-American in 2000-2001 and finished season #1 in the nation in "team scoring defense" in his first year as Head Coach in 1998.

 

In addition to his years directing the Athletics program and acting as Head Coach of the Basketball teams, Coach Jones also served as Holy Names College's Sports Information Director, as Assistant Athletic Director from 1998-2001, Assistant Women's Basketball Coach from 1997-1998, and Men's Basketball Assistant Coach from 1996-1997.

Lisa Thuer

Lisa R. Thuer brings a rich combination of social work and sports-related experience to her position in the HNU Athletics Department. Thuer currently works for HNU as the Assistant Director of Athletics, Sports Information Director, Senior Woman Administrator and the head softball coach. Her responsibilities including marketing, sports information, and additional administrative duties. She is focused on implementing changes which will ensure equality and inclusion.

 

From 2009-2011, she served MacMurray College's Senior Woman Administrator and Head Softball Coach. During this time, Lisa created & implemented the College's Gender Equity Plan and was responsible for ensuring NCAA DIII Compliance within the Athletics department. During her time at MacMurray, she also served as an Assistant Professor of Social Work teaching classes in sociology and social work.

 

From 2007-2011, Lisa acted as an Athletic Coach & Fitness Instructor with the YMCA where she implemented the Women's Sports Foundation's Go Girl Go curriculum and Girls On the Run curriculum. She is Personal Training, Spinning, & American Red Cross CPR, First Aid, and AED certified. She is currently instructing Spinning classes in San Leandro, CA.

 

Prior to beginning her professional career Lisa played softball and ran cross country at the NCAA Division II and III levels. She holds two undergraduate degrees in Religion and Social Work from MacMurray College and has a Master of Social Work degree from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. She is currently working on a second Master degree in Education at Holy Names. Thuer holds memberships with the National Association of College Women Athletic Administrators (NACWAA) and the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA).

 

In addition to fulfilling her passion for athletic activities, Lisa worked as an advocate for women in need. She provided a variety of social services in her community, including service and education to homeless women, victims of intimate partner abuse, women facing deportation and women in crisis pregnancies. Thuer continues to advocate for gender equity and empowerment and is dedicated to raising awareness around the issues of racism, sexism, and heterosexism and their relation to athletic and academic opportunities for student athletes.

 

Bill

Bill Plonsky

 Bill Plonsky is in his fourth year as the Head Athletic Trainer & Director of Sports Medicine at Holy Names University. His professional preparation includes a Bachelor of Science Degree in Athletic Training from Brigham Young University in 1984 and a Master of Science Degree in Athletic Administration from the University of Wyoming in 1989. He has been certified nationally (ATC) by the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA) for over 25 years and has been a member of the NATA for almost 30 years. He is also professional rescuer certified by the American Heart Association.
 

As an ATC, he has gained a plethora of experience in many Universities & Colleges around the country. He has been the Head Athletic Trainer and Instructor/Professor at such schools as Canada College in Redwood City CA, Wesley College in Dover DE, Lakeland College in Sheboygan WI, Mt. Senario College in Ladysmith WI, Eureka College in Eureka IL, West Texas State in Canyon TX & Chadron St in Chadron NE. He has also had the opportunity to work in many clinical settings doing outreach sports medicine to local high schools & junior colleges in such places as Austria, TX, IL, IA, PA & CA.

He currently resides in San Francisco's Ocean Beach district with his partner Chris Raisbeck & their Jack Russell Terrier, Sedai.

 Cesar Cardenas returns to Holy Names University, this time as the Associate Director of Athletics. As the Associate Director of Athletics, Cesar will be responsible for the management of the swimming pool, sporting event management, and event staff supervision. In addition, as a Certified Athletic Trainer, he will also be assisting in the Athletic Training Room on a limited basis.
Cesar has been involved with HNU Athletics since 2006, when he began a 2-year post as HNU's Head Athletic Trainer. In March of 2008 he moved on to California State University, East Bay and served as an Athletic Equipment Technician for a few years. During that time, he was able to complete his graduate studies. Once his graduate studies were completed, he was able to split time between his equipment duties and the Athletic Training Room.
 In January of 2011 Cesar accepted the position of Facilities and Events Coordinator for the Athletic Department at East Bay. A position he held until his decision to return to Holy Names. As Facilities and Events Coordinator he was responsible for being the visiting team liaison, hiring, scheduling, and payroll of event staff, and he assisted in oversight of the athletic facilities. While working at East Bay Cesar returned to Holy Names on occasion and helped with game day Athletic Training coverage.

Cesar graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology in 2006 from San Jose State, with an emphasis in Athletic Training. In 2010, he completed his Master of Science in Kinesiology from California State University East Bay, with a Professional Perspectives Option. His culminating Master's Project involved working with event management company, Vineman, Inc. He has been a Certified Athletic Trainer since June 2006.

Cesar is happily married to Angel Cardenas, and has two kids, Anabelle (4) and Isaac (1). When not spending time with his beautiful family he enjoys running, golfing, and playing soccer. He enjoys pushing himself physically and mentally, and is currently training for the Full Vineman Triathlon in July 2012. He is also a member, usher, and youth teacher at Mission Hills Christian Fellowship in Hayward, CA.

Marcie Haduca

Marcie Haduca was hired by Holy Names University as the first ever Compliance Coordinator in May 2011. Haduca is not new to the university, having been a part of the HNU community since 2004. In her new role, Haduca will oversee the creation of a compliance program at HNU as the university looks to become a fully functional NCAA Division II program in the immediate future.
 
It is her responsibility to coordinate, implement, facilitate, oversee and evaluate all facets of the athletic compliance program. Haduca operates the compliance program including rules education, rules interpretations, and monitoring and coordinating rules compliance efforts. In her short tenure on the job she has created and implemented various forms necessary to ensure department compliance, submitted a number of NAIA appeals, certified eligibility of all student-athletes at HNU this past year, created a compliance manual, and served on hiring committees for the athletic department. Ensuring the integrity of the university and its athletic department is of highest importance. She is the Chair of the Compliance Committee, a member of the HNU Athletics Leadership Team and has been in attendance at conference and NCAA regional rules meetings.
 

Haduca has honed her skills in intercollegiate athletics and involvement in the HNU community over the last seven years having served as a manager of the HNU Bookstore, Head Assistant Women's Basketball coach for five seasons, and a director of summer basketball camps at HNU. Other responsibilities within the department have included facility rentals and operation, summer camps, hosting of tournaments, and sports information.

Raised in Watsonville, California, Haduca received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Management Economics with a minor in Earth Sciences from University of California at Santa Cruz in June 2004. Haduca was a four-year letter winner in basketball for the Banana Slugs leading the team in scoring, three pointers made and minutes played her senior year. She was named UCSC Outstanding Female Student-Athlete of the Year in 2002, and earned NAIA Academic All-American honors as well.
 

In 2004, she was named one of 22 finalists from across the country for the NCAA Ethnic Minority & Women's Internship Program. Haduca completed her master's degree in Sport Management at the University of San Francisco in December 2007.
