Scott Howard - Head Coach - 1st Season
Scott Howard is an accomplished coach, player and leader in tennis at the local and national level. Scott has eight years of Head Coaching experience at the collegiate level, including six and a half years at the NCAA Division I level.
In 2002, while at the University of the Pacific, one of his players earned Big West Conference Player of the Year, and the team won ITA All-Academic Honors. During his tenure at Pacific, he spearheaded the upgrading of the campus tennis facility, developed a tennis newsletter, established an alumni group, added a record number of home contests, strengthened the match schedule and increased fan attendance.
During his time as Head Coach of the Men's and Women's teams at University of Texas-Pan American, both teams' experienced tremendous success. His final season ended with the men's team recording their most wins since 1992 and the women's team ended up with the most wins since 1996. The tennis program was awarded ITA All-Academic Honors both years he was at UTPA. He was voted Southland Conference Committee Chair for Men's Tennis by his coaching peers. At the University of San Francisco, he inherited a team that went 0-20 the year before he arrived. By his second year, the team finished 8-13.
Scott is currently the Director of Tennis at the Golden Gate Park Tennis Academy in San Francisco. He is a Vice President of the United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA), and has won more than 20 USTA tournaments in the past five years. Scott has been selected to coach some of Northern California's top junior players at the USTA Winter National Championships and at the USTA National Zonal Championships.
He comes from an extremely well known and successful tennis family here in Northern California. His father Gil, has won more than a dozen USTA National Championships and at one time was ranked #1 in the world in his age division. Both of his two older brothers were ranked in the world's top 500 on the ATP tour, and his sister played #1 at San Francisco State University. He competes in USTA Men's Open and Senior events and was ranked #10 in singles in the USTA Men's National 40 and over division. He and his partner finished ranked #2 in the country in doubles in 2006.
