Coach Omar Sanchez enters his first year as the Head Coach Basketball Coach for the men's program. Sanchez has spent the last seven seasons as former head coach Dennis Jones' assistant with both the men's and the women's teams.
Sanchez was in charge of post play, defense and strength and conditioning. In 2003-04 Sanchez played a vital role helping the Lady Hawks to a 33-4 record, a Cal Pac championship and a trip to the NAIA Div. II National Tournament where they lost in the "Sweet Sixteen" to Evangel University 64-61.
Sanchez also leads the department's Master Coaching Program, ensuring ethical coaching and leadership. Sanchez started at UC Davis, but after blowing out his ACL and having reconstructive knee surgery, Sanchez transfered Solano College where as a captain and All Conference player guided the Falcons to second place finish in the Bay Valley Conference and play-off berth as he averaged 10 points and 8 rebounds.
Sanchez then transferred to Holy Names and helped lead his team as a two year captain and defensive player to one conference title and two appearances in the National Tournament, the last time Holy Names has been to the dance prior to the appearance in 2006. In his two year stint with the Hawks, Holy Names was #1 in the country in many defensive categoies, a great reason for their success.
Over the last seven years through the mentorship of Coach Jones, Coach Sanchez has experienced the many aspects of coaching, from: planning practice, breaking down film and provide scouting reports, to planning trips, to helping in the development of the overall success of the men's basketball program.
