Lisa R. Thuer - Head Coach - 2nd Season
Lisa R. Thuer brings a rich combination of social work and sports-related experience to her position in the HNU Athletics Department. Thuer currently works for HNU as the Assistant Director of Athletics, Sports Information Director, Senior Woman Administrator and the head softball coach. Her responsibilities including marketing, sports information and additional admistrative duties. She is focused on implementing changes which will ensure equality and inclusion.
From 2009-2011, she served MacMurray College's Senior Woman Administrator and Head Softball Coach. During this time, Lisa created & implemented the College's Gender Equity Plan and was responsible for ensuring NCAA DIII Compliance within the Athletics department. During her time at MacMurray, she also served as an Assistant Professor of Social Work teaching classes in sociology and social work.
From 2007-2011, Lisa acted as an Athletic Coach & Fitness Instructor with the YMCA where she implemented the Women's Sports Foundation's Go Girl Go curriculum and Girls On the Run curriculum. She is Personal Training, Spinning, & American Red Cross CPR, First Aid, and AED certified. She is currently instructing Spinning classes in San Leandro, CA.
Prior to beginning her professional career Lisa played softball and ran cross country at the NCAA Division II and III levels. She holds two undergraduate degrees in Religion and Social Work from MacMurray College and has a Master of Social Work degree from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. She is currently working on a second Master degree in Education at Holy Names. Thuer holds memberships with the National Association of College Women Athletic Administrators (NACWAA) and the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA).
In addition to fulfilling her passion for athletic activities, Lisa worked as an advocate for women in need. She provided a variety of social services in her community, including service and education to homeless women, victims of intimate partner abuse, women facing deportation and women in crisis pregnancies. Thuer continues to advocate for gender equity and empowerment.
Coach Thuer is dedicated to raising awareness around the issues of gender equity, racism, sexism, and heterosexism and their relation to athletic and academic opportunities for student athletes.
Lisa earned Bachelor's degrees from MacMurray College, one in Social Work and one in Religion. Additionally, she has a Masters of Social Work from George Warren Brown School of Social Work. Coach Thuer is working on an additional Master degree in Education at Holy Names University.
