Catherria Turner - Head Coach - 1st Season
Coach Catherria Turner enters her first year as the Head Women's Basketball Coach. Coach Turner spent the last 2 year as an assistant coach at the University of Portland where she also worked on her Master's in Education.
At the University of Portland Coach Turner assisted in the recruitment of potential student athletes, game day operations, manage practices in the absence of the Head Coach, helped in the holistic development of each student-athlete. Her last season at the University of Portland, she helped post the most wins in a season since 1997.
Prior to the University of Portland, Coach Turner served as the assistant women's basketball coach at the University of Maine. At UM Coach Turner assisted in the many day to day operations of the women's basketball program, which included: recruiting, planning practice, assisting in traveling, player development and at time running practices in the absence of the Head Coach.
In 2007 Coach Turner was the assistant coach for Simpson College (IA). At Simpson College (IA) Coach Turner not only assisted in the day to day operations of the women's basketball program, but also was the diversity recruiter for the athletics department. During the 2007 season at Simpson Coach Turner helped post a record of 27-3 and a "Sweet Sixteen," finish.
Before starting her coaching career in intercollegiate athletics Coach Turner coached AAU basketball, as well as ran a couple of basketball camps which included: Camp Goodenough, Tucson Miracles Basketball Camp, Ms. Balla' Classic Basketball Camp, and Michael Dickerson Basketball Camp. AAU teams included: Tucson Miracles Girls Basketball and Stillwater High School.
Turner began her college career at the University of Oregon, where her freshman year Oregon won the NIT championship. The following year she transferred to Oklahoma State University, where Turner excelled as a member of the women's basketball team. In 2005-2006, she was among the leaders in the nation in assists and minutes played. Turner was team captain and was also as a scholar athlete, named to the Big 12's All Academic Women's Basketball Team.
Within Turner's high school career she was named the 2001 State Player of the year; after averaging a triple double (29.7 ppg, 11 rbs, and 10 stls). Turner still holds the Arizona big schools state records for points per game average, along with steals in a season and in a game. She was inducted into the Amphitheater High School (AZ) Sports Hall Of Fame in 2010.
Turner received her Bachelor of Science in Education at Oklahoma State University in 2005 and earned her Master of Science in Management Communications at the University of Portland in 2011.
