Oakland, Ca - The HNU Tipp-Off tournament finished today with #17 Southern Oregon defeating the Keelhaulers 84-70. For the Hawks they finished their HNU Tip-Off Tournament on a positive note. They defeated the Sunbirds of Fresno Pacific University 71-65. With the win the Hawks complete the sweep of the Sunbirds and move to 3-1 on the year.
The First game of the night featured the Keelhaulers of CSU, Maritime and the Red Raiders of Southern Oregon University. Southern Oregon jumped out from the start and by half time was up 43-35. The Red-Raiders found success from the free-throw line as they shot 10-16 from the line in the half. The Red Raiders would add another 20 attempts in the second half and defeat the Kellhaulers 84-70.

Leading the Keelhaulers was Lauren Westbrook with 18 points. Also contributing was Taylor Himmelspach and Tiffanie Puente each with 11 points. For the Red Raiders it was once again Kacki Speer who on the night scored 36 and grabs 12 rebounds. Speer in two games scored 70 points and 24 rebounds. The Hawks took on the Sunbirds in the final game of the Tip-Off Tournament.

The Hawks who last week defeated the Sunbirds 76-66 looked to do the same. In the first half the Sunbirds packed the paint as they knew the Hawks would want to penetrate and get to the rim. At the Half it seemed to be working for the Sunbirds as they were up 39-40. The Hawks in the second half did not veer away from what gave them success and even though they shot 18-51 (35%) from the field and 3-17 (17%) from the three point line, they did manage to get to the free throw line 41 times shooting an impressive 32-41 (78%) from the line. The Sunbirds on the other hand only manage to get to the strike 12 times. This would be the difference in the game. The Hawks pulled away in the end winning 71-65.

For the Sunbirds it was Michele Rebozzi who led them with 15 points. Melissa Flores also contributed with 14 points of her own. Jessica Mazza finished the game with the only double-double of the game with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Lesley Vodicska finished the game with a career and game high 24 points. Junior Jamie-Leigh Ronolo also chipped in with 15 points.

Next for the Hawks is a rematch with the #17 Southern Oregon University Red Raiders. Game is November 14, 2009 at 7:00PM.
