Berkeley, CA - The Hawks matched up today against the solid Slugs of UC Santa Cruz. With an impressive winning record of 13-2-3 and taking down Cal Baptist University who plays in the tough GSAC, the Hawks were up for a great battle today. After it was all said and done the Hawks would end up victorious, shutting down the Slugs 1-0.
For the Hawks it was freshman Rasmus Larson in the 23rd minute who headed in the ball after a great pass from the corner from junior Liam Whelan. Also contributing big for the Hawks was junior transfer Roberto Sanchez who came in for starting goal keeper Lars Johansen who in the first half sustained an injury after colliding with one of the Slug players. Roberto finished the game and had some pretty impressive blocks.

For the game the Hawks were out shot by the Slugs 27-14, but it was not enough for the Slugs as the Hawks complete the shut-out.

Next for the Hawks is the much improved Pioneers of Pacific Union team who last year finished 7th in the Cal Pac and currently sit in second place at 7-1-1. The Pioneers will look to give the Hawks their first conference loss in four years and they will attempt to do so on their own home turf. Game will be on Friday, November 6, 2009 at 2:30PM in Angwin, CA.
