Vallejo, CA - On a night where two undefeated teams decide who would takes sole possession of first place; it was the Keelhaulers who jumped on the Hawks and take home the victory 49-66.

The first half started slow for both teams as they would only score four points after 6 minutes of play. The Keelhaulers would then jump out on the Hawks, holding them scoreless over the next four minutes while scoring 8 points, on their way to a 12-4 lead. Holy Names would work their way back in the game, but only got as close as 15 points. Maritime would hold that lead going into halftime up 15 (23-38).

"We really struggled in the first half. To Maritime's credit they did a good job of taking us out everything we do. On top of all this, we did a poor job of execution and making free-throws," says Coach Sanchez.

The second half open with more of the same, with Maritime winning every battle and taking HNU out everything they did. While HNU struggled at the free-throw line, missing 14 on the night, they also got outrebounded on the night and lost the turnover battle. In the end Maritime took home the win 49-66.

"We got beat in every aspect of the game tonight. At the end of the day talent will never beat hard work, especially when talent does not work hard. We will be better next time around," added Coach Sanchez.

Cal Maritime finished with two in double figures led by Isaiah Moore with 14 points and Jaquai Wiley with 13 points on the night. Notably, Josh Greenwell finished the night with a game high 11 rebounds.

For Holy Names it was Mike McElroy who finished with 12 points and a team high 6 rebounds. Fabian Lopez chipped in with 9 points and 4 rebounds. Both Zac Sewitsky and Ian Collins chipped in with 6 points each.

For the night HNU shot a poor 34% from the field, 7% from behind the arch and a season low 50% from the free throw line.

Next for the Hawks is the Menlo Oaks on Thursday, January 26, 2011. Game will be in Tobin Gymnasium at 7:30pm.
