OAKLAND, CA- The HNU Men's Volleyball team is off to a fantastic start in their 2012 season. The men traveled to Colorado this past weekend and earned a 2-1 start against the Air Force Academy and Johnson and Wales. The Red and Black are currently 2-0 in conference play.   
This 2012 HAWK squad will be playing under a new conference, the Mid-America Men's Volleyball Intercollegiate Conference (MAMVIC). Following the conclusion of the 2011 season, the MAMVIC announced they would reorganize into three divisions based on the geography of its member institutions. MAMVIC schools span the US with teams located in states such as California, Colorado, Wisconsin and Florida. Holy Names has moved from the west Conference to the National Division. Other schools within the conference include Johnson and Wales(CO), Hope International (CA), and Warner University(FL).
 
The inaugural National Division Championships will be held March 23-24, 2012 at Hope International University in Fullerton, CA. The top six ranked teams nationwide following the Division Championships will advance to the NAIA National Invitational in Davenport, Iowa in mid-April. The MAMVIC is headed by commissioner, Bruce Billingsley.
 
The mission of MAMVIC and these conferences shall be to promote the positive ideals and objectives of athletics, to provide an organization of colleges with similar foundations to engage in athletic contests on an equal basis, to serve as a forum to formulate guidelines and solve common problems, to enhance and preserve athletics in their true perspective, to promote athletics in an academic environment. This conference shall facilitate the purposes of intercollegiate sports and further the learning goals of its member institutions.
 
 The Hawks are off to a positive start tonight, January 20th they will take on Cal State Monterey Bay. Tomorrow they are looking to go head to head with Cal Poly Pomona.
