Victory!
Redding, CA - The hawks showed resiliency Saturday as they defeated Simpson and William Jessup in the CAL-PAC PREVEIW. It was a blistering hot day and several of the athletes were injured, however that didn't stop the women from smashing their competition.
Freshman standout Maricruz Espindola rallied back from the flu to finish second in a staggering time of 23:08, following her was Sr. Chenique Jackson with a time of 24:33 for a respectable finish of 5th place. Freshman Laura Crabtree also stepped it up after returning from the flu with a 7th place finish and a time of 24:54. Sr. Jenna Pasillas finished 8th with a time of 25:47 and was followed by freshman Katy Anklam with a time of 26:32 and a finish of 10th, rounding out the hawks was Jr. Alicia Torres with a time of 30:42 finishing 11th.

This is impressive because there were 6 HNU women in the top 11 finishers, which is a great way to break up your opponents spread. The women's team has shown major improvement and heart throughout the whole year and is currently ranked second behind Mills College who has won conference several years in a row; however it appears as though the HNU women finally have the guns to take down Mills College at the California Pacific Conference Championships. The two teams will met at the Santa Clara meet October 17th and it is sure to be epic!!!
