Enjoying a WIN!
Redding, CA - When the HNU men's cross country team crawled onto the start line Saturday at the highly prestigious CAL-PAC PREVEIW invitational the hopes of keeping their undefeated streak look. The top 5 runners were plagued with illness, injury, and a top runner sitting out for the race.
To make matters worse the Hawks had to square off against a fresh ready to roll William Jessup team. Clearly the Hawk's undefeated streak was in jeopardy on this over 100 degree day. But all this aside there was one thing the men had working for them and that was Hawk Pride!

Right from the starting gun the seemingly unbreakable trio of Juan Gomez, Edrian Luna, and Zachary Holt went straight to the front of the pack. Throughout the battle, Gomez the number one ranked runner in CAL-PAC, went to the lead and was followed by his teammates Luna and Holt who are the number two and three ranked runners in CAL-PAC. The blistering heat, and rocky roads took a toll on the competitors but they were not to be outdone, not today. Even with their Kenyan, and stacked team William Jessup couldn't even manage to get one runner to finish before Gomez, Luna, and Holt went 2, 3, and 4 in the invitational. Despite being sick, Juan Gomez led the hawks with a 2nd place finish at a time of 28:06, Luna coming off of a nearly season ending injury rallied back with a 3rd place finish in a time of 30:18. The two veterans were followed closely by freshman Zachary Holt whom collapsed from dehydration after the race with a 4th place finish and a time of 30:18. Meanwhile continuing the battle for the middle pack Senior Miguel Solis also showed his fighting spirit despite a serious foot injury, finishing in 14th place finish and a time of 34:11 and was soon followed by freshman Leo Gonzalez in 21st with a time of 38:23 who's wild gun to the finish allowed him to reel in 3 of his opponents.

After the dust had settled the hawks stood victorious over their opponents in spite of the heat and daunting course, showing that no matter what misfortune comes there way they will fight to the end. With the top three CAL-PAC runners on the HNU team, the hawks are on fire as they head to Santa Clara University for the Stampede Invite that starts at 9am.
