TORRACE, CA-Holy Names University's men's soccer player, Rodrigo Da Silva was selected to the U.S. Futsal National Team earlier this week. The U.S. Futsal National Team held an elite player identification tryout at South Coast Soccer City in Torrance, Calif.
The ID camp was designed to identify the top Futsal players in the country, with an eye toward strengthening the U.S. team that will attempt to qualify for the 2012 FIFA Futsal World Cup in Thailand.

Out of hundreds of applications only 45 applicants were invited to show their skills and one of those applicants selected was HNU's own, Da Silva. During his tryout Da Silva was exposed to the highest standard of Futsal within the U.S. For three days he and several other players competed for a chance to become part of the team's player pool and to compete at the highest level of the sport in the United States and potentially against the world's best national teams.

At the conclusion of the tryout the U.S. head coach Keith Tozer selected 18 players who would form the national team's roster. This team will represent the United States at the 2011 Grand Prix of Futsal, an elite annual international tournament taking place in Brazil in October. Da Silva was selected to be part of this group! He will return to Los Angeles to train with the team in the next few weeks.

"I am excited to be a member on the team. I went down to Southern California without too many expectations. I honestly did not think I would be selected to compete. I am thrilled to have this opportunity," stated Da Silva.

Holy Names Head Coach, Nick Lusson shared his enthusiasm regarding Da Silva's accomplishment, "We're all extremely proud of Rodrigo and his accomplishment in making the national team. He's quickly become a great asset to our program, having just joined us this season, and it's apparent that his abilities as a player, work ethic and passion for the sport have been key attributes to getting him to opportunities like this one. We all wish him the best of luck in this venture and we're confident that he'll make a great impact on the international futsal scene as well as the collegiate soccer one."

While in Los Angeles, Da Silva will train in hopes of being selected to travel with the team to Brazil. Holy Names wishes Rodrigo the best!
