Oakland, CA --- The Holy Names University Women's Basketball program has released their 2009-2010 schedule.
One of the nation's best NAIA women's basketball programs are back!!! The Hawks return to action for the 2009-10 season. HNU has a very competitive 30 game schedule that includes a good balance of 15 games at Tobin gym on the HNU campus and 15 away games. The Hawks will take their road show to Oregon, southern California and Las Vegas, Nevada. They will get a chance to shake some rust off before the season opener with the annual Alumni game, October 17th. The contest with the Alums will be followed up with an exhibition game against the Gators, at San Francisco State on Oct 24th, 2009.
The '08-'09 Cal-Pac champions open up their regular season against Fresno Pacific University on Oct 30th, 2009, in the friendly confines of Tobin gymnasium. This hard season opener comes after the alumni game which is on Oct 17, 2009.
The lady Hawks continue tradition as they host the HNU Tip-Off Classic and the HNU Thanksgiving Classic. In the Tip-Off, the Hawks face Fresno Pacific for the second time on Nov 6th. Game two for the HNU will be against long time Cascade Conference rival, Southern Oregon University on Nov 7th. Next up the Hawks face off against GSAC power Azusa Pacific University on Nov 27th, the first night of the HNU Thanksgiving Classic. Game two will feature a second meeting between Holy Names Concordia University of Irvine, the eagles and Hawks will play one week earlier in Southern California.
Before heading into Christmas break HNU will take a detour through Las Vegas Nevada, as part of the 2009 NAIA Las Vegas Hoopla. The event provides a rare opportunity for West Coast teams to square off with NAIA schools from across the country. In game one on December 18th the Hawks will draw William Jewell College out of Liberty Missouri. The second matchup in Las Vegas will pit the Hawks against the Queen Bees of Saint Ambrose University; the Bees will be buzzing in from Davenport Iowa.
Holy Names will begin their trek for a third straight Cal Pac Title as they open league play on Jan 7th, 2010 against cross bay rival Menlo College. The Cal-Pac has been owned by the lady Hawks the last two years; they look to make it three in a row and 10 Conference Championships in 15 chances. This year, Hawk seniors will be honored at the last home game of the season, which falls on Feb 18th, against Conference foe Pacific Union College.
The lady Hawks finished 24-9 overall in 2008-09, with a Cal-Pac best 15-1. They hope to continue their winning ways and bring home yet another Cal-Pac title, and make some noise at the NAIA II National Championships in Sioux City Iowa. GO HAWKS!
