Oakland, CA --- The Holy Names University Men's Basketball program has released its 2009-2010 game schedule.
Hold your breath everyone, because the Holy Names men's basketball team is back for the 09-10 season. As the Hawks look to bounce back from a down year, Head Coach Dennis Jones has gone out and revamped the roster and has it poised to make some noise in the California Pacific Conference. The 30 game season includes a balance of 15 home games and 15 on the road, a nice even playing field. It also includes two huge exhibition games against NCAA II, Academy of Art University on Oct 25that Kezar Pavilion. The second exhibition game will help kick off the New Year, as the Hawks will travel across the Bay to face NCAA I foe, University of San Francisco on Jan 2, 2010.
As always, the Hawks will first square off against the Alums on Oct 17th, game time is 5PM in Tobin Gymnasium. In this game, former Hawks return to campus looking to test out the newcomers that hope to take this team back to its winning ways.
The first regular season game will have the hawks on the road in Southern California against a very good Biola University team on Oct 29th. HNU will follow that up the very next night against defending GSAC Champion Fresno Pacific University.
Everyone knows that it would not be a Hawk basketball season without the HNU Thanksgiving Classic and the Holy New University New Years Classic. This years Thanksgiving Classic will match the Hawks against John Brown University in game one, The Golden Eagles hale from Siloam Springs Arkansas. The following night, Nov 28th, the Hawks go up against Cascade Conference power Warner Pacific University, a team that HNU lost to in the opening round of the 2006 NAIA II National Tournament.
The HNU New Years Classic will feature the second match up between the Hawks and Cal Baptist on Dec 29th, 2009. Then the Hawks finish up the New Years Classic the following night against Mount Marty College, The Lancers will be making the trip to the West Coast from Yankton South Dakota.
California Pacific Conference play starts up on Jan 7th, 2010 against rival Menlo College at Tobin gym in Oakland. The conference is wide open this year and is forming up to be a struggle to the top for all teams. Hawk seniors will be honored at the last home game of the season, which falls on Feb 18th, 2010 against Pacific Union College.
The Hawks finished 7-24 overall in 2008-09, but are looking to get back to the tradition of excellence that marks the program. This new group of Hawks has set lofty goals and is already working hard on and off the floor to exceed them. GO HAWKS!
