Oakland, CA - Tonight the Hawks faced off the Johnson and Wales Wildcats who flew in from Denver, Colorado. This makes it their second encounter of the season against the Wildcats. The match tonight was a battle between these two teams. The team who could control their service possessions would win the game. The wildcats proved to control their service possessions and won the game (25 -22, 25 - 20, 25-23).
The Hawks came out very strong in the first match. Junior Colin Harper and Sophomore Trevor Parker displayed a lot of intensity and led the team in kills. Colin Harper ended the first match with three kills and Trevor had two kills and two blocks. These two teams were neck and neck the entire match. The biggest point spread of the match was three points. The Wildcats came out with the win for the first match (25-22).
These two teams played some good volleyball and the second match was again a very close match. The Hawks defense was really solid against the Wildcats. Nicholas Kalustian led the second match with three digs. Jayme Hanan and James Holway also contributed with two digs each. The Hawks serve, receive, and passing broke down and the Wildcats went on a five point serving spree. That five point run was the deciding factor of the match. The Wildcats won the second match (25-20).
The Hawks did not let the past two matches affect their performance in the third match. It only made the Hawks more determined to work harder. Colin Harper went on three point serving spree in the beginning of game that gave the Hawks a lead in the first match. Trevor Parker brought the intensity in the third match and played amazing defense leading the Hawks with six blocks. Colin went on another three point serving spree towards the end of the game. The Hawks played a great match, but the Wildcats came out victorious (25-23).
