Oakland, CA - In tonight's game the Hawks faced St. Mary's College making this their encounter. St. Mary's came in to tonight's game well prepared and ready to play. They were ready to redeem themselves from their first encounter with the Hawks, but the Hawks held their ground and won in 3 sets (25-17, 25- 19, and 25-15).
The Hawks came out flat in the first match. Throughout the match the Hawks struggled on closing the blocks on defense. They were also struggling on being in the correct defensive positions. This made it hard for the Hawks to stop St. Mary's offense and get into some kind of momentum. Freshman OH Adam Slattery helped the Hawks break away from St. Mary's by serving 4 points (2 aces) in a row. This was a crucial turn around in the game that the Hawks needed. Junior OH James Holway served 3 points (1 ace) in a row helping the Hawks to win the match (25-17).
The second match continued to be a struggle for the Hawks. They were still having problems trying to stop the St. Mary's Offense. During the second half of the match the Hawks were finally timing their blocks better against St. Mary's and were able to get 4 total team blocks in this match. Hawks were able to pull together at the end and win the match (25-19).
Hawks came out with a lot more energy in the third match. The Hawks were able to execute on offense and defense which made a tremendous difference in this match. They continued to execute plays and they won the third match (25-15).
