Hawks make it four in a row
Merced, CA - The Hawks traveled to UC Merced tonight making this there second game against the Bobcats. These two teams played each other last week Wednesday, so they were both teams were well prepared for tonight's game. Hawks struggled through the first two matches, but they were able to fight through each match and bring home their fourth straight victory (25-16, 25-21, 25-16).
  
The Bobcats came out strong in the first match taking a 5 point lead against the Hawks. The Hawks set back was their lack of intensity and focus to execute crucial possessions. They needed to come together as a team to bring the focus back and they did. They tied the game at (HNU 11 - BOBCATS 11). Nicholas Kalustian was able to give the Hawks their first lead over the Bobcats by serving 3 points in a row putting the score at (HNU 14-BOBCATS 11). Continuing the serving spree was Colin Harper who served 6 straight points in a row helping the Hawks win the match (HNU 25- BOBCATS 16). Another standout was Jayme Hanan who ended the first match with 5 digs. The Hawks serve, receive, and pass percentage was an impressive 90%.
 
The Hawks struggled in the second match with 16 unforced errors due to service and hitting errors. Hawks did not play with a high level of intensity which was there set back. After a timeout called by Head Coach Combs, the team was able to pick up the intensity level and play better volleyball. They battled with the Bobcats and won the second match (HNU 25 - BOBCATS 21). Adam Slattery ended the second match with 6 kills.
 
For the third match the Hawks were finally able to get into a rhythm and cut down on their unforced errors. The Hawks were able to control the match and play with a high level of intensity. They won the third match (HNU 25 - BOBCATS 16).
 
Junior OH James Holway ended the game with 11 kills and 2 digs, Freshman OH/OPP Adam Slattery ended the game with 10 kills and 3 aces, Junior Setter Nicholas Kalustian ended the game with 19 assists, Junior Setter Colin Harper ended the game with 14 assists and 4 digs, Junior LB Jayme Hanan ended the game with 10 digs and 1 ace. The teams total serve, receive, and pass percentage was an 82% for the entire match.
