Oakland, CA - The Hawks took on St. Mary's College last tonight for their first home game of the season. They spent the last two weeks preparing and practicing hard for this game. All their hard work had paid off as they defeated St. Mary's College in three matches (25-22, 25-18, 25-22).
In game one the Hawks strategy to serve tough had proven to be successful. Gabriel Ching went on a five point serving spree giving the hawks a lead against St. Mary's. The Hawks offense and defense had proven to be flawless for the first half of the match. Towards the end of the match St. Mary's battled their way back bringing the game within a two point difference. But the Hawks came out victorious with the win 25-22.
The Hawks took a different approach in game two changing the starting lineup. They had a rough start with the new lineup and some unforced errors, but they stuck together as a team. Their team work helped them to successfully win the match 25-18.
In game three the two teams battled keeping the point spread within a two to three point difference the entire match. This was a welled played game, but the Hawks prevailed with their first win of the season.
Holy Names takes on San Francisco State University in a match at home on Friday, January 28, 2011 at 8:00pm in Tobin Gymnasium.
