Oakland, CA - In its continued efforts to support Oakland youth soccer, the HNU women's soccer team recently made a donation of its used equipment to Edna Brewer Middle School and several other local schools.
The physical education programs of many of these public schools have taken heavy hits in recent years due to budget cuts, so the Hawks wanted to give back to our community and help where the help was needed.

The donation consisted of soccer balls, some equipment, and the team's used uniforms. The team plans to follow-through with additional community outreach and player clinics in the Fall and Spring of next season to support youth soccer in Oakland.

Oakland public schools do not always have the resources to properly fund top-rated athletic programs compared to the rest of the cities in the bay area. Often times, coaches are drastically underpaid, school site facilities aren't up to date or to safety standards and most programs are funded directly by the coaches and parents themselves.

Of course there are definitely bright spots in Oakland and thanks to generous donations from organizations and institutions such as Holy Names University, our students can benefit from feeling positive about how they look on the playing field and the equipment we practice with. A big appreciation goes out to all those who are invested in the youth sports of Oakland, California.
