Infielder Mekenna Thurber
Oakland, CA - Mekenna Thurber, infielder for the McQueen High School softball team, signed her letter of intent to attend Holy Names University. 
In just its third year of existence, Holy Names softball has represented the California Pacific Conference at the NAIA National Softball Championship Tournament two of the past three years, in both 2009 and 2010.
 
A 2010 graduate of Reno, Nevada's McQueen High School, Thurber was a 4-year varsity starter that batted .398 this past season and led her team in runs scored with 34, while sporting a .468 on-base percentage.
 
Thurber was named 2nd Team All-League for the AAAA High Desert league, and was an All-State nominee. Thurber was also active in many community service projects like the Truckee River clean-up project, the Northern Nevada Food Bank and St. Vincent's dining room. Thurber plans to major in Kinesiology, in preparation for Physical Therapy.
