Oakland, CA - The Hawks scored early with a run in the first inning on a Taryn Thomas walk. Thomas was sacrificed to 2nd, moved to 3rd on Alexis Moctezuma's infield hit and scored on a sacrifice fly by Jessica Merriam. HNU picked up two more in the 4th when Laurel Clough led off with an inside the park home run.
Later in the same inning Susan Robertson singled and scored on a triple by Thomas. The Hawks topped off the score with a last run in the sixth when Clough singled, moved to 2nd on a passed ball and scored on a single by Robertson. Susan Robertson went 3 for 3 in this game. Stepani Fairclough picked up the win with a solid effort on the mound giving up only 1 run on 5 hits. The final score found Holy Names 4 - 1 over the Patten Lions.
The Hawks scored early again in game 2 with three in the first on an Alexis Moctezuma single, a Jessica Merriam walk, and a two run double by Laurel Clough. Kaitlyn Stutz singled moving Clough to third. Kara Ferguson singled Clough to the plate for an RBI. In the 2nd inning Taryn Thomas singled and promptly stole 2nd base. Thomas scored on a single by Allison Snider, while Jessica Merriam singled moving Snider to 2nd base. Clough singled scoring Snider and Stutz singled scoring Merriam. The last blow to the Lions came in the 4th on a triple by Merriam and a run scoring single by Stutz. Kaitlyn Stutz had a perfect game with 3 for 3 and 2 RBI's. Senior Nicole Guttormsen picked up the win with a complete game giving up two runs in the effort. The final showed Holy Names 7-2 over Patten.
With the wins the Hawks move to 17-17 overall and 8-2 in conference play.
Next for the Hawks, they travel to San Francisco to take on the Urban Knights of Academy of Art University. Game is Wednesday, April 14, 2010 at 1pm and 3pm.
