Oakland, CA - HNU dropped two conference games to Simpson this past Saturday in close games that had Simpson capitalizing on small but pivotal mistakes by the Hawks.HNU scored first in game 1 when the Hawks played small ball with Taryn Thomas getting on with a single, moving to 2B on an Allison Snider sac bunt, and scoring on an Alexis Moctezuma single. Simpson responded in the 4th inning with 3 runs, making it 3-1, which held through the 7th. Markie Benavidez-Talbott allowed only 3 hits in the loss, but the Hawks' downfall were errors and being unable to add to the one run. Simpson's pitching dominated game 2 which saw the Hawks only getting 2 hits and striking out 13. Both Rachael Martinez and Laurel Clough marked the game with hits, while Simpson scored single runs in the 2nd and 4th innings to win 2-0. Stephani Fairclough made the stand on the mound for HNU getting 4 strikeouts, but again, critical mistakes and lack of hitting cost the Hawks.
