KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Preseason No. 1 Oklahoma City regained the top-ranking in the second edition of the NAIA Men's Golf Coaches' Top 25 Poll, the national office announced Friday. The Stars, ranked fourth in the first regular season poll, received 15 first-place votes for 496 points, to take the No. 1 ranking. Oklahoma Christian is ranked second, followed by Savannah College of Art & Design (Ga.), Holy Names (Calif.) and Malone (Ohio) to round out the top-five teams. SCAD picked up a pair of first-place votes and Holy Names was awarded one.
Three teams cracked into the Top 25 for the first time in a 2010 regular season poll. Northwood (Texas) earned a preseason ranking of No. 21, and check in at No. 20 after receiving votes in the last poll. Both Point Loma Nazarene (Calif.) and Shorter (Ga.) were receiving votes in the preseason and the first poll, but break into the Top 25 at No. 14 and 25, respectively. The trio of newly ranked teams replaces previously-ranked No. 16 Lubbock Christian (Texas), No. 23 Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) and No. 25 Saint Ambrose (Iowa).
The Sooner Athletic Conference leads all leagues with five ranked teams, including the top-two teams: Oklahoma City, Oklahoma Christian, No. 12 Southern Nazarene (Okla.), No. 16 Wayland Baptist (Texas) and No. 21 Oklahoma Baptist. Four teams represent The Sun Conference: SCAD, No. 6 South Carolina-Beaufort, No. 7 Johnson & Wales (Fla.) and No. 18 Southeastern.
The poll was voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences, independents and unaffiliated groups. The next poll will be announced on April 2.
