Oakland, CA - In a game that was supposed to be a battle last night, turn out to be a display of great team defense by the Hawks. At stake was a bid to the national tournament in Sioux City, Iowa, but someone forgot to tell Menlo. The Oaks were close for the first ten minutes of the game as it would be tied at 10 points apiece. Menlo would only score 4 points in the last 10 minutes of the first half and go down 29-14. The second half would be more of the same and the Hawks would take home the victory 59-40.
Holy Names was able to put lots of pressure on their guards all night, and held their All-Conference player Katelyn Guild to only 6 points on the night. The Hawks showed why they are #5 in the country in field goal percent defense and #9 in steals. On the night HNU held the Oaks to 11-48 (22%) shooting from the field and 3-10 (30%) from the three point line while having 12 steals on the night. HNU defended well all night, from double teaming Guild, to leaving no breathing room on the Oaks guards when they dribbled, to rebounding misses, and making the Oaks play faster than they were use to.

The Hawks on the other hand were functioning on all cylinders. From defense to running their offense and making Menlo pay for trying to defend the Hawks in the open court. On the night the Hawks shot 32% from the field and 35% from the three point line. One area that the Hawks struggled was from the charity strike making 22 of their 33 (66%) attempts on the night.

For Menlo it was Stephanie Truong who finished the night with 17 points and 4 rebounds. 12 of her 17 point came from the free throw line. Guild did manage to finish with a game high 11 rebounds.

Holy Names finished with three in double figures. Leading the way was Jamie-Leigh Ronolo with 13 points, followed by Player of the Year Lesley Vodicska who finished with 12 points, 4 assist, and 3 steals. Marie Vodicska would add 10 points and 4 steals on the night.

With the win the Hawks clinch their 11th national tournament appearance and move to 23-9 on the year. For the third consecutive time the Hawks win the regular season championship as well as the conference tournament championship.
