Oakland, CA - After a thrilling game tonight, especially in the second half, it was the Hawks that would pull off the victory after 9-10 from the line and eliminate the Keelhaulers 73-61. 
Coming into tonight's game the Hawks knew they had to play a solid game, as the Keelhaulers were the only ones to defeat the Hawks earlier in the year, but because of games the Keelhaulers had to forfeit, the game was reversed. Nonetheless it was in the Hawks head and this thrilling game went down to the wire.
 
The first half found the Hawks jump out to a 7 point advantage (7-0), only 1:34 into the game, but Maritime would fight back and crawl back into the game. With 14:39 the Keelhaulers would tie the game after two made free throws from all conference player Lauren Westbrook. The Hawks responded with a floater off penetration from guard Alexandria Gonzalez which would put the Hawks up by 2. After a couple exchanged buckets, the game would be tied for the second time with 9:59 (16-16) left in the half. The Keelhaulers would then take a one point lead a minute later, but Holy Names would quickly respond. Behind the 18 points of junior Jamie-Leigh Ronolo the Hawks would close of the half on a 21-11 run and go into half time with a 10 point lead.
 
Maritime would be down 10 as three of their starters got into foul trouble.
 
The first ten minutes of the second half belong to Maritime as they open up on a 17-6 run to tie the game for the fourth time. Danika Potestio would put the Hawks up by one after making one of two from the line, and after an offensive rebound and kick out to Anitra McCain, who would net the three; Holy Names would go up 4 with 10:53 left in the game. Maritime would quickly respond and at 56 a piece with only 9:01 left in the game. After their 6th tie of the game with only 7:22 left, the Hawks would finally play Hawk basketball. Over the next six and half minutes the Hawks would go on a 13-3 run and hold Maritime to only 3 points in the last 7:22 of the game.
 
For the Keelhaulers three would finish in double figures, leading the way was Lauren Westbrook with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Taylor Himmelsspach and Alexsis Brown chipped in with 12 and 10 points respectively.
 
For Holy Names it was junior guard Jamie-Leigh Ronolo who finished the game with 25 points. Three others finished in double figures including a double-double by all conference forward Sarah Henning who finished with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Player of the Year Lesley Vodicska ended the game with 11 points, 6 rebounds, 7 assist and 5 steals. Rounding off the Hawks double digit scoring was senior Katie stiles who finished with 10 points and 5 rebounds.
 
With the win the Hawks move to 22-9 on the year 12-0 in conference play.
 
Next for the Hawks is the winner of tonight's game between Simpson University and Menlo College. Holy Names will face the winner of this game Monday, March 1, 2010 at 6pm in Tobin Gymnasium.
 
The winner receives a bid to the National tournament in Sioux City, Iowa starting March 10-16th.
