Rocklin, CA - In a game where the Hawks got out rebounded by 21 rebounds and shot 17-34 from the charity strike (6-19 in the second half) one would think that the opposing team won by a big margin. This was almost the case, but the Hawks fought hard, and in the end the Warriors of William Jessup University defeat Holy Names 60-68.
Tonight's game for the Hawks was suppose to be an opportunity to win the California Pacific Conference Championship, something they have not done since the 2007 season. It turned out to be an upset by a Warriors team that wanted "IT" more. Since the Warriors lost last Thursday night tonight's game, tonight did not mean much, but an opportunity to play next Thursday in the California Pacific Conference Tournament. The Warriors proved to be just that, Warriors. With the loss both teams drop to 9-3 in conference play and are in a tie for second place.
For the Hawks another missed opportunity. With so much youth and inexperienced players, the Hawks have managed to lose a lot of close games this year. To their credit, after 1-15 start in the preseason, Holy Names could have just folded it in, but by the start of conference managed to go 6-0 in conference. Since then they have lost 3 of 6 games and now position themselves 3rd in California Pacific Conference Tournament standing.
With tonight loss the Hawks drop to 9-3 in conference and 11-19 overall.
Holy Names will face Simpson University at home on Thursday night at 7:30pm.
Let's Go Hawks!
