HNU men's golf claimed victory for the second year in a row at the CSU San Marcos Invitational, which wrapped up with its third and final round Tuesday morning.

The 12-team field competed at on the par-72, 6,750-yard  San Luis Rey Downs Golf Course in Bonsall.  Winning the tournament, the hawks led after every round and finished with a three-round team total of 868.  Cal Baptist took second with an 883, and CSU San Bernardino placed third with an 892.

Individually, Cal Baptist's Carl Stjarnfalt won the event with a total score of -4 (212) and HNU's Stephen Edman finished in second with a score of -2 (214).

As a team, the Hawks got off to an early first round lead shooting 290. The Hawks followed up round one with another solid round shooting 292. Thanks to Cal Baptist's Carl Stjarnfalts round of 66 the Hawks would only hold a four shot lead going into the final round.

Junior Stephen Edman led the way in round 3 shooting 68 to go with back-to-back 73's on Monday.  Knowing that they had to post a good final round score to repeat as champions, the Hawks did just that. Shooting a final round -2 (286), the Hawks ran away with the title winning by 15 shots.

Second on the team was Garrett True, who opened with 77, then shot 69 and 73 to finish with a total of +2 (219) putting him in 7th place.

Austin Fink and Daren Johnson both shot 220, tying for 8th.  Fink shot rounds of 73, 73 and 74 while Johnson fired rounds of  71-78-71.  Rounding out the team was freshman Patrick Byrne, who placed 25th with a 229.

The Hawks to to Arizona next week to play in the Southern Nazarene Arizona Invitational.
