Oakland, CA - For what was meant to be a battle for the Hawks last night turned out to be a dominating performance by the Keelhaulers. In the first meeting this year, the game was a back and forth battle for the lead, but in the end the Hawks pressure turned out to be too much for Maritime. The Hawks seemed to have forgotten what got them to an impressive 7-1 record.
Saturday's game was more of lackadaisical effort defensively and a stagnant effort offensive. Credit goes out the Keelhaulers who did a great job of executing their game plan and defeating the Hawks 68-54.

From the start of the game when the Keelhaulers jumped out on the Hawks 7-0, Holy Names could not get anything going. The Keelhaulers double teamed HNU's David Scott and could not find other ways of scoring. Holy Names settled for too many jump shots which were not falling. Hawks three leading scorers were held to only 6 points in the first half. Maritime was able to go into halftime with a 38-21 halftime lead.

The Hawks opened the second half 11-0 run to cut the Keelhaulers lead to 6. This would be as close as the Hawks would get. After two technical fouls, Holy Names started falling apart and Maritime would capitalize on it. The Keelhaulers would manage to increase their lead to as much as 20 points with 2:09 left in the game. Holy Names would start pressing, but it was a little too late. The Keelhaulers did a good job of packing in the paint and bumping the Hawks off their cuts. Holy Names was out rebounded 38-27 and were only limited to 2 offensive rebounds.

Sophomore guard Josh Greenwall finished the game with an impressive 17 points and 10 points. Michael Weimer, Andrew Medeiros, and Leo Sarrade rounded off double figure scoring with 14, 12, and 10 points respectively.

The Cal Pac's leading scorer was held to 14 points on the night. Johnas Street, the Hawks second leading scorer was locked down and allowed only 2 points on the night.

Next for the Hawks is Simpson University, who the Hawks defeated in overtime a couple of weeks ago. Game is Thursday February 11, 2010 at 7:30pm.
