Oakland, CA - After losing to the Keelhaulers in the first part of conference play the Hawks came out to prove one thing, and they are number one. From the start of the game the Hawks proved to be too much for Maritime and at the end it was the Hawks who took possession of first place, defeating the Keelhaulers 78-66.
The Hawks started the first half on a 10-4 run. Constant pressure from HNU guards prevented Maritime from getting anything established. By the end of the first half the Hawks build a 19 point cushion.

The second half was more of the same, poor execution by Maritime and constant pressure by the Hawks. With 32 turnovers on the game, Maritime was unable to get anything going. Their best offense was one on one dribble penetration, but even then the Hawks were able to step up and take charges.

In the end poor free throw shooting, lots of turnovers, and poor shooting from the field prevented the Keelhaulers from coming anywhere close to defeating the Hawks. With 7 minutes left in the game Holy Names was up by as much as 30. Maritime would make an effort to get back in it, but it was a little too late.

Alexsis Brown finished with 16 points, Lauren Westabrook added 15 points, and Lauren Himmelspach had 10 points for the Keelhaulers.

For Holy Names it was the Vodiscka sisters, Lesley and Marie who led the team with 15 and 14 points respectively.

With the win the Hawks move to 8-1 on the year and 16-10 overall.

Next for the Hawks is Simpson University. Game is Thursday, February 11, 2010 at 5:30pm.
