Oakland, CA - For the first 15 minutes of the first half this would be a close game, but the Hawks put it on the Warriors and finish them in the first half. Holy Names would go 15 at half and increase that to 23 in the second to take home the victory 75-52.
The Hawks would open up the on a 6-0 run, but the Warriors would fight and quickly get back into the game. Our first tie would come with 9:03 left in the first half, but this would be the closest William Jessup would get. The Hawks closed out the half on a 24-9 run and go into halftime with a 15 point lead.
The Second half was more of the same with Holy Names scoring at will. William Jessup seemed to have no answer for the Holy Names' speed. The Warriors would get as close as 9 points with 10 minutes left in the game before the Hawks unleashed their pressure and speed. From that point on Holy Names finished the game on a 24-10 run to beat Jessup by 23 points.
Nicole Aboumrad, Meghan Hickaby, and Lindsey Casena all finished with 10 points each for the Warriors. William Jessup was held to 22% shooting from the field and 21 % from the arch. They also gave up the ball 36 times on the night.
Sophomore guard Lesley Vodiscka led the way for the Hawks with a double-double with 11 points, 12 rebounds, 5 assist and 5 steals. Junior guard Jamie-Leigh Ronolo would add 18 points. While junior guard Marie Vodiscka chipped in with 16 and 5 rebounds. Rounding off the double figure scoring was Sarah Henning with 12 points and 9 rebounds.
With the win the Hawks go to 14-10 overall and 5-1 in conference.
Next for Holy Names is round two of conference play, against the Oaks of Menlo College. The Hawks defeated the Oaks at the start of the month 60-54. Game will be played in Atherton, California on the campus of Menlo College on Saturday, January 30, 2010 at 5:30pm.
