Angwin, CA - After defeating a non-conference opponent in UC Santa Cruz last Tuesday night the Hawks travelled to Pacific Union to do the same. Defeating the Pioneers 84-56 keeps the Hawks in second place in the Cal Pac Standings.
The Hawks were able to shot 40% from the field on 32-76 shooting, 34% from the arch on 8-23, and 60% free throw shooting on 14-23. The Pioneers were not so fortunate, as Holy Names was able to press and create many problems causing 42 turnovers on the night. With constant pressure the Hawks were able to hold Pacific Union to a low 26% from the field and 12% from the arch. The Pioneers were able to beat the Hawks in one category tonight and that was the free throw line, shooting 75% on 33 attempts.
Leading scorer for Pacific Union was JoAnne Mauries with 16 points and 5 rebounds. Devin Tiny also helped with 13 points and 8 rebounds on the night.
Holy Names finished the night with four in double figures. Leading the pack was senior Katie Stiles with 18 points and 8 rebounds. Guards Whitne' Blackburn, Jamie-Leigh Ronolo, and Britney Potestio finished the night with 11, 12, and 13 points respectively.
With the win Holy Names moves to 4-1 in conference play and 13-10 overall.
Next for the Hawks is battle to stay in second place and gain ground on first place Cal Maritime. The Hawks will take on William Jessup University. A win will give the Hawks a 2 game lead on Jessup, but a loss will put both teams in a tie for second place.
