Vallejo, CA - Tonight's game featured an early match-up of conference undefeated teams. The Hawks and Keelhaulers managed to win their first two conference games and now one team was looking to take sole possession of first place in the California Pacific Conference. The Hawks went on the road to play in one of the most difficult venues in conference and defeated the Keelhaulers 71-68.
The first half found the Hawks with an early 9 point lead after shooting 4-5 from the arch, but the Keelhaulers were able to fight back and close in on the lead. With 25 seconds and the game tied the Hawks fought hard to get one last stop, but the Keelhaulers' Michael Weimer would get a offensive rebound with 1.3 seconds and lay the ball up to put the Keelhaulers by two at halftime (35-33).
In the second half both teams would try and maintain a lead, but both teams were able to play great defense. In the last minute the Keelhaulers had four chances to tie or take the lead, but the Hawks were able to make their free throws and put the game away.
The Keelhaulers were lead by Andrew Medeiros with 16 points. Haven Piatt and Michael Weimer also chipped in with 13 and 11 points.
For the Hawks it was David Scott with a game high 18 points, 10 rebounds and 4 steals. Ben Clyde would contribute with 17 points. Johnas Street would round off the Hawks with 13 points. Notably for the Hawks senior Paul Conyers and Ben Clyde would make big plays late in the game to help pull of the victory.
With the win the Hawks move to 3-0 and in first place of the California Pacific Conference.
