Oakland, CA - Since 2004 the Oaks have dominated the Hawks in conference play, winning eight of the last ten meetings. Tonight was the first conference game of the year and the Hawks came out tonight with a purpose - defeating the Oaks 60-54.
The Hawks would jump out to a 9-0 lead to start the game as the pressure from the Vodiscka sisters was too much for the Oaks. The Oaks would respond with an 8-0 run of their own to cut the Hawks lead to 1 at the 13:56 mark. Freshman guard Anitra McCain would respond for the Hawks with a 3-pointer. For the next two minutes the Hawks and Oaks would exchange baskets, but the Hawks would manage to keep a one point lead. Over the next 5 minutes the Hawks would manage to get stops and create turnovers and therefore create a 10 point lead.Even though the Hawks could not score for the last 2:09, they still managed to get stops and be up 8 at the half.

The Hawks opened up the half with a jumper by freshman Lesley Vodiscka. The jumper put the Hawks up 10, but the Oaks had a little fight in them. The Oaks would put the clamps on the Hawks for the next 7 minutes. After a 3-pointer by Carlie Stone, the Hawks lead would be cut to 1. Kelli Bruell would add another jumper to put the Oaks up 1 ((44-45) with 11:00 left in the game. This would be the first and only time the Oaks would lead. The Hawks would manage to go up by 7 with 5:29 left in the game. The Oaks would have one more push as they would cut the Hawks lead to 1 (55-54) with 2:07 left in the game. After a jumper by Sarah Henning the Hawks go back up by 3. Lesley Vodiscka would shoot 4 free throws to close the game making three of four and closing the game out for the Hawks.
