Oakland, CA - Tonight concluded the Hawks Annual Thanksgiving Classic. In the first women's game the Cougars of Azusa Pacific University defeated the Oaks of Menlo College 64-58. The Hawks played the Eagles of Concordia University. For the second time in two weeks the Eagles defeat the Hawks 65-53.
In the first game it was the Cougars of Azusa Pacific University taking on Cal Pac foe, the Oaks of Menlo College. It was the Cougar's junior guard Michelle Byrd who would strike first in the game with a buck and a foul. The Oaks would keep it close (11-10) when the Cougars go on 19-4 run. By half time it was the Oaks who would finish the half strong, cutting the Cougars 15 point lead to 5.
The second half found the Cougars extend their lead to as much as 10, but the Oaks would not go away as they would fight hard to stay in the game. In the end the Cougars' Alex Moore-Porter would be too much as she finished the game with a double-double with 19 points and 10 boards.
The Cougars finished the game with four in double digit scoring and two with a double-double. The Oaks were led by Katelyn Guild with 17 points and 7 rebounds.
For the game the Cougars shot 49% from the field, 10% from the arch and 52% from the free throw line. The Oaks on the other hand shot 32% from the field, 20% from the arch, 81% from the free throw line.
In the second game it was the Hawks who would jump out on the Eagles of Concordia University. The Hawks who previously played the Eagles only 7 days ago would lead the game 8-2. The Eagles would make a little run and tie the game at 8 only three minutes later.After the second tie of the game at 10-10, the Eagles would mount a run and finish the half up 7 (23-30).
In the second half the Eagles would start the half by extending their lead by 11. The Hawks would fight hard, but the Eagles size was too much for the Hawks as they give up 14 offensive rebounds to the Eagles.
The Eagles were led by Nicole Flu and Lauren Sahli who on the night combined for 20 and 13 points respectively.
The Hawks were led by junior Jamie-Leigh Ronolo and freshman Lesley Vodiscka each with 12 points on the night.
The Eagles would shot 37% from the field, 38% from the arch, and 59% from the free throw line. The Hawks 28% from the field, 27% from the arch and 75% from the free throw line.
Next for the Hawks they travel to San Rafael to take on old rival Dominican University. Game will be December 1st at 7:00pm.
