Santa Clarita, CA - Marcelo Silva scored in the eighth minute of play and that was all The Master's College needed as it shut out Holy Names 1-0 in an NAIA National Championship Opening Round Match Saturday afternoon on Reese Field.
The victory propels the Mustangs into the national tournament's round of 16 where they will face off with Indiana Tech on November 30 at the finals site in Fresno.

Silva's goal was his fourth of the year and came unassisted on a beautiful scissors kick. It was the start of an avalanche of Mustang shots (12-2 advantage) in the first half but none passed through the pipes again as Hawk goalie Lars Johansen notched seven saves in the opening 45 minutes.

Meanwhile, things were quiet on the other end as neither of the Hawks' two shots forced Mustang goalie Kevin Lawson to make a save.

There was more shot parity in the second half (the Mustangs outshot the Hawks 9-7) and Lawson did rack up five saves but his defense kept everything in front for the most part with few threats over the final 15 minutes.

The November 30 match against Indiana Tech will start at 2:00pm on Ramirez Field in Fresno.
