Salem, OR - After playing the Red Raiders just over 10 days ago, the Hawks travelled to Southern Oregon looking to redeem their three point loss at home. If give up 63 free throw attempts to your opponent, get out rebounded 26-61 one would think you got blown out, but the Hawks even though 6 Hawks fouled out still managed to take the game into overtime. The Hawks lose in OT to the Red Raiders once again by three 79-82.
The Hawks defended well in the first half, holding #18 Southern Oregon at home to 20% shooting from the floor. And even thought the Red Raiders shot 27 free throws in the first half the Hawks were up at half 35-28.
In the second half the Hawks went back and forth with the Red Raiders exchanging baskets and with 2:50 left in the game the Hawks get a steal and lay-up and broke the 12th tie of the game. With 1:04 left junior Suman Baines tied the game for the 14th time at 68 all. In overtime the Hawks set the tempo early, but All American Speer for the Red Raiders would not be stopped and hit a jumper to put the Red Raiders up for good.
The game ended with Southern Oregon shooting a school history high 63 free throws and combined had 62 turnovers and 64 fouls were called.
The Red Raiders finished the game with three players with double-doubles, led by All-American Speer with 22 points and career high 28 rebounds.
The Hawks were led by freshman Lesley Vodicska who finished the game with 11 points and 5 assists. Senior Katie Stiles and junior Alexandria Gonzalez also chipped in with 10 points each.
With the loss the Hawks drop to 2-2 on the year and next will face Southern Oregon conference rival Oregon Institute of Technology tomorrow night at 7:30pm.
